(midi or .mid) this is the most commonly used format for polyphonic ringtones used in most mobiles today ,its a high quality sound small in disk size but is purely instrumental & cannot play voice sounds *

(wave or .wav) this is in the top tier of the voice/music formats ,it creates near cd quality sound files but only just smaller in file size than the original cd , you can make the file size smaller or bigger by choosing different options, wavs are mainly used on pcs or as small noise clips like the windows startup jingle that plays when you switch your pc on *

(gif or .gif) this is the only format that can be used for animated images, its a good format for bold plain colours & wording but not very good for photo images but offers small file sizes in exchange for quality & when used in a animation program can create brilliant moving images *

(png or .png) this is a pc file format which offers the best quality for most images but has huge file sizes & one which i store most of my artwork in due to the high quality that it saves in ,some newer nokias/samsungs use this format as well as the others above for wallpapers or savers *
